We had absolutely perfect weather for our annual bonfire!  We really could not have asked for a better evening.  There was a wonderful turnout even though we had three couples who had to cancel at the last minute due to sick little ones.  That is something that is always going to be an issue this time of year.  The kids enjoyed the Halloween Hunt as well as the hayride.  Luke has been talking about the hayride for weeks.  He ended up sitting with Christina and her boys instead of me which was fine.  He looked half asleep most of the ride.  Katherine stayed with Mom at the fire with some of the others.  It would have been too bumpy of  a ride for her and probably a little too chilly.  I realized that at next year's bonfire she will be about the age that Hanne Louw is now.  It is amazing how time flies.

After the hayride we came back to the bonfire and ate chili, hot dogs and s'mores.  There is nothing like s'mores on a cool fall evening!  I felt like everyone enjoyed themselves.  I was glad that I actually got to have at least a little conversation with most of the guests. Paul and I commented on how fun it is to see all the kids interacting with each other and seeing how much they grow from year to year.  This was the 6th year we have hosted the event and we plan to continue on as long as people continue to come!

Getting Ready!

A visit with Kitty

Super excited about the party

Paul working on getting the fire going

The food table
We got to Gallatin around noon Saturday to start setting up for the bonfire.  I am reminded every year about how much work goes in to making the evening fun for everyone.  Paul works the hardest ..... hooking the trailer up, putting the sides on it, building the fire, setting the chairs and tables up and so on. My main responsibility is looking after the kids, "decorating" the table and cooking the chili.  We cooked the chili at Kitty's this year since Paula's kitchen is not completely back together.  It was nice and gave us an opportunity to visit with Kitty for a while.  Luke loves Kitty's.  She always has Pringles and marshmallows waiting on him!  He was playing with one of the boy's old doctor kits yesterday and was giving everyone "shots".

Paula helped out a lot with the kids.  Nonna came before the party started as well to take over Katherine duty so I could do the last minute things before everyone arrived.  Katherine was so good and really seemed to enjoy being outside.

Lovin' Our Routine

Waiting on brother to get home
A kiss for his sister
I must say after having Luke home for two days and Paul for one Katherine and I were ready to get back in our normal routine.  We loved having them home but Katherine does better with her naps, etc when it is just the two of us.  We did some errands in the morning that she slept through and spent the rest of the day recovering from the previous two.

Bill surprised Luke by picking him up from school today!  They went back to Gallatin for awhile.  He came home in time for bed.  Since we were minus one child we took advantage of it and tried to get as much ready as we could for our bonfire on Saturday.

A Much Better Day

Luke took this picture

Playing trains

Feeling all better!
I knew today was going to be a much better day as soon as Luke woke up.  I was in Katherine's room feeding her and he came running in saying "Mommy, Mommy" in his very happy voice.  I asked him how he felt and he said "all better!"  He gave us both a big hug and went bounding off to find Paul.  He had run a low-grade temp during the night so he had to stay out of school again.  Paul is off on Thursdays so we made it a fun family day.  We cooked breakfast, did some errands, played a lot and we all took naps in the afternoon.  It was an unexpectedly wonderful day!

A Stay in Your PJ's Kind of Day

Well today is one of those days that you I would just as soon not have many of.  It all started in the wee hours of the morning when Luke woke up sick.  Paul and I kind of have an unspoken understanding.  If Luke calls out during the night he goes, if Katherine cries I go.  I did hear Luke call out and Paul get up but I did not hear anything else.  Apparently Luke threw up and Paul called for me a couple of times.  He said when he came back to bed I was sleeping hard - obviously!  I felt awful that I did not know what all was going on.  Luke has done this a few times before.  If he eats too much or too quickly he will throw it up later.  He only threw up once and then went back to sleep.

I knew he could not go to school so he stayed home with Katherine and I.  Our day was trucking a long pretty well. Luke did not feel bad so we played, read and he even had a good appetite.  During lunch I noticed he had what appeared to be an insect bite right under his eye.  I literally watched it swell up while we ate.  Luke has always been sensitive to insect bites since he was an infant.  I did not think much about it.  After lunch Luke fell asleep on the couch.  Katherine and I went to her room for awhile so Luke could sleep in peace.  When I went back to check on him later he woke up.  When he raised up I immediately noticed a splotchy looking "rash" on his temple and going down his cheek.  Since he had just woken up he was not very talkative.  In fact, I couldn't really get him to say anything. (This is not unusual when he is woken up unexpectedly).  I had him sit up and I lifted up his shirt.  The rash was all over his shoulder and back and he said it itched.  About the same time Katherine started letting me know, very loudly, that she was hungry.

I called the pediatrician's office to get their advice and to see what the dosage for Bendaryl is for Luke's weight.  We decided I would watch it and see if it continued to spread.  The nurse advised me to make sure he did not develop blurry vision, etc.  I had him look at the TV and tell me how many balls there were, what color and so forth which he did without difficulty.  He said he was itching.  I gave him Benadryl and within a few minutes the rash vanished before my eyes.  Luke did have a low-grade temp so I also gave him some Ibuprofen later that evening.  In the midst of all this my Mom called, Paula called and Paul called all offering their help.  I must admit, I was a little panicked.  I had never seen anything like it. I was not sure if I needed to rush him to the doctor or what.  Within an hour of it appearing the rash was gone and Luke was pretty much his normal self.  Luckily Paul was home a little early today so he was able to "take over" for a little while so I could decompress from the afternoon's events.  I did try to take some pictures of the rash but they did not turn out.  Guess we will talk to Dr. P about this the next time we see her.  Paul had several allergies growing up and it looks like Luke is going to follow in his daddy's footsteps.

Low Key Day

Katherine Suzanne - 2 months, 2 weeks

Luke Harrison - 2 months
Today was very low key around here.  I started not feeling well in the middle of the night.  Just a quesy stomach, no appetite, and a low grade temperature.  So, Katherine and I did not do much.  We did make it to the grocery store which was a much needed trip.  When we got back I was worn out!  Katherine was great all day.  She never really fussed and took several good naps so I rested, too.  I think I just have some type of stomach bug.  Hopefully will be 100% soon.

I did manage to take these pictures of Katherine this morning.  She is loving the Baby Einstein toy lately.  I remembered a similar picture we had of Luke on the Einstein.  Could not resist posting both the kids on the same toy for comparison!  They really do favor each other a lot.

I don't need a nap

Really enjoying his supper

A very sleepy Luke

Waiting to get our picture taken
We all went to church this morning.  I was running a bit behind schedule but we still made it before the service started and were able to find a seat.  Katherine did not quite make it to the end of the service this time.  Paul got up with her and went to the lobby.  It was not time for her to eat but she just did not want to sit in the sanctuary today.  We enjoyed our normal Subway after church.  Paul and Luke ran Katherine and I home so she could eat while they ran back to Sam's to get some supplies.

We tried most of the afternoon to get Luke to take a nap.  No such luck this time.  The boy would not give in.  We had a rehearsal/ reception at church tonight for Katherine's dedication.  Luke fell asleep on the way up there and was pretty groggy when we got there.  He did great going to a classroom while we were in the meeting.  Katherine did ok, too.  She cried quite a bit but I think it was because she was tired.  We got home around 6:15 and were able to see the end of the Titans game. While I was feeding Katherine Paul fixed Luke a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  He then decided he wanted honey on it, too.  He made a sticky mess!

Weekend Kickoff

Laid back and relaxed

Breakfast with Nene and Pop!
We met Bill and Paula for breakfast at Cracker Barrel.  What a great way to start the weekend.  Breakfast always tastes better when I do not cook it!  We enjoyed a good meal and trying to catch up on all the upcoming events.  Luke loves breakfast food and knew exactly what he wanted - pancakes, eggs and bacon!  After we ate we ran several errands in preparation for our upcoming bonfire and hayride.

The rest of the day was spent doing things around the house and watching football.  I must say I was pretty excited to see Alabama loose and Auburn win!  War Eagle!  Poor Tennessee lost again.  I am keeping my fingers crossed Auburn can keep up the winning streak.

Visiting at Work

Luke sportin' his new shoes
One of my good work friends - Hollie
Thursday Katherine and I enjoyed a long overdue visit to my work.  It was so great to see a lot of people!  Cindy was so nice to take some pictures, but we did not get any of her in them!  I did not go on the floors since I would rather not expose K to any unnecessary germs!  I mainly hung out in my office.  Katherine slept a lot of the time, but woke up to take a bottle.  After our visit we went to the Troutts were Paul was preparing for our hayride/ bonfire next weekend.  I had to take a peek at the kitchen progress as well.

Paul, Katherine and I went to lunch then stopped by the bank to open her savings account.  We went home for awhile then we all went back to pick Luke up from school.  We realized he had outgrown his boots from last Winter so went to Stride Rite to get him some new shoes. I had a merchandise credit left from Spring so that was nice.  Luke now wears a size 8 1/2 wide!  His foot is growing fast.  It is hard to find wide shoes at Target, Wal-Mart, etc that is why we usually end up getting them at Stride Rite. We had another fun, productive day at the Troutt house!

What a Wonderful Day!

Nonna giving Luke a boost

The little guy would not look at the camera

The giraffe was very friendly today!

Luke couldn't wait to ride the elephant

This little girl was great!

Deciding on a pumpkin!

Hitching a ride in the pumpkin wagon

Still a lot of love after a full day together!
We had a great Wednesday!  Nonna took the day off so we decided to take full advantage of it.  We started the morning off by going to the Nashville Zoo.  The weather was wonderful!  Luke was excited to see the elephants and giraffes.  Mom and I were wanting to see the new flamingo exhibit.  So, we criss-crossed our way across the zoo to make everyone happy.  Luke and I rode the merry-go-round as we were leaving.  He had been talking all morning about riding the elephant but once he was on it I think he was scared.  He was clinging to the pole for dear life.

After the zoo we stopped for lunch.  Katherine had slept the whole time we were at the zoo and then slept through lunch!  We went to a nearby park so I could feed Katherine while Luke played on the playground.  This worked out great.  Once we were finished at the park we headed north and made a couple of more stops.  Our last stop was to pick out some pumpkins for our straw house in the front yard.  We did not think Luke was ever going to decide which one he wanted but he finally did.

We got home after 4 o'clock and Nonna and Luke played on his jungle gym while Katherine ate.  Paul let me know he was working a little late so Nonna and Luke went and picked up bbq for our supper.  It was a very fun, but exhausting day!

What's Baby Jesus Going to be for Halloween?

Luke has decided he would rather not wear pants

Can I please get a smile?

Trying to get a brother/sister shot

Still no pants...
So, this is the question I get asked on the way home from Luke's school today.  Hmmmm....I just told him that Baby Jesus does not dress up for Halloween to which Luke responded "oh yeah, because he is a baby and only big kids get to dress up".  Gotta love it!  It never ceases to amaze me with what Luke comes up with these days. He picks up on everything we say.  Paul and I have a habit of "talking" to each other across the house.  Most of the time we can not hear each other.  I yelled something from another room tonight and I heard Luke say "what?  I can't hear you!"  Like father, like son.

Welcome, Fall

Paul is hard at work

Luke was a good helper
Today was absolutely perfect weather. Sunny and in the low 70's.  What a way to kick off the fall!  We started the day by going to get Paul and Luke's hair cut.  Katherine and I watched and entertained Luke while Paul was finishing up.  After that we went to get Luke's Halloween costume.  He has been saying that he wanted to be Lightning McQueen for a week or so.  When we got to Target he tried the costume on and liked it.  But, then he saw the Thomas costume!  We encouraged him to try that one on, too (it was $10 cheaper).  He decided on Thomas.  I can't say I was surprised.  We told him that he could not change his mind once we got home with it.

Paul trimmed all the shrubs yesterday but had not had time to pick up the clippings.  He and Luke worked on that when we got home.  Luke loves to help.  He got out his rake and helped Paul load the wheel barrow and take everything to the back fence row.  The rest of the day was spent watching football.  Poor Tennessee thought they had the win only to loose the game on a technicality.  Auburn's game was a blow out, but it was a non-conference game.  By tonight we were going stir crazy so we loaded up and went to Sam's.  We only needed liquid soap but we all enjoy browsing around in there!  We are not the only ones -- the store was packed.

Fun Friday!

Hanging out with Mom
First ride in Papa's truck!

So over the picture taking

Trying on her dedication dress
We had such a great Friday.  Katherine and I went for a walk in the neighborhood.  The weather was absolutely perfect.  I must admit I was sore from the walk, pathetic I know.  We spent the rest of the day doing things around the house.  I have  been trying to decide what Katherine would wear for her baby dedication later this month.  I had bought a dress before she was born for one of her panel pictures.  I thought it would be too big but we tried it on and I think it will work great.  It would have been nice for her to wear one of her grandmother's gowns, but we could not make that work.

Bill picked Luke up from school and they hung out in Gallatin for the afternoon.  We met them for supper last night in Hendersonville.  We tried two different restaurants before we found one that did not have a long wait or loud music. We ate Mexican which is always a family favorite.  Luke had fun at Nene and Pops.  He was excited that Nene's kitchen was painted yellow which is his favorite color.
